Lampworking Class Levels

We offer three levels of lampworking classes at Soleil et Lune Studio & Gallery - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. They are classified according to the skill level required to complete the projects in the class.

  • Beginner - Beginner level students have had no experience, or have had very little experience working with glass. In Beginner level classes we not only cover the basics of working with glass, but also cover safety issues, proper use of tools, shop setup, etc. This is the class level to take if you are just getting started.
  • Intermediate - Intermediate level students will typically have had a Beginner level class or have been self-taught, and have the basic skills required for making basic beads. Thse skills include making round beads, making shaped beads, pulling stringer, etc. They should be comfortable making beads that take 15-20 minutes to make. It is suggested that a student have at least 100 hours on the torch or at least 6 months experience before taking an Intermediate class, but as everyone progresses at different rates, those are more guidelines than requirements.
  • Advanced - Advanced level classes are the most advanced classes we teach. Advanced level students are typically students who work with glass on a regular basis and are comfortable making large beads or other items that require many steps. It is suggested that an Advanced level student have at least 200 hours on the torch and at least a year's experience on the torch. Some classes will require even more experience and prerequisites.
